I live in Seattle with my wife, Nancy, our daughter and le dog known as Louis Waffles.
Growing up I showed a little bit of liking to being creative and my sweet mother jumped all over it, signing me up for classes, just encouraging it in any way possible. I believe it stemmed for her love of the arts that she never quite pursued, as well as her love for her father who showed quite the interest for creativity as well.
Fast forward a few years and I was trying to be an art-sports-music-smart-cool kid all at the same time, and it was overwhelming. I got along with everyone, but never a leader of any group. The beginning of the “jack-of-all-trades, master of some” life track I ended up following. The only thing I didn’t like was Chemistry. And English, I was bad at not finishing reading assignments. Otherwise I enjoyed school – specifically my Art classes, then when the opportunity came, Drafting and Architecture classes. I believe this is where the technical side of creativity found me and set me towards a path of discovering the cross-section of the left and right-brain sensibilities that are graphic design. Of course that and loving music – just wanting to design album covers for a living.
Then there was college and deciding on a career. I double majored in Art Education AND Graphic Design, on top of playing a whole lot of soccer. Thankfully I realized I wasn’t going to make it as a pro athlete, and after student teaching I quickly chose to be a designer. Of course during all that I was extremely close to becoming a sculpture major, and being where I’m from, I believe I’ll return to the woods to live someday creating some tedious works of natural three-dimensional art.
Until then I’m sworn to crank out visual communications of ideas to the masses, and consider myself lucky to enjoy what I do for a living, at least for the majority of the time.
I like sunsets and long walks on the beach. Ok, I love sunsets and avoid long walks in general.
I love soccer, though have told myself that I am too old to play it, and now have even less time to watch it.
I like tasty things, like coffee.
I don’t drink soda, but I love cheap beer. (Yes I know this conflicts with the previous statement). I also love those less cheap beers too.
Originally from Virginia, I lived in Raleigh, NC for some time and enjoyed it.
One of three brothers, sometimes I am very dude-like.
I’d be really good at driving long distances, but I enjoy sleeping a little too much.
I do wish I had a car with a manual transmission.
